Meta AI Auto Reply vs PilotAgent: Which One Do You Need?
By Julien Benaggoune, founder of PilotAgent. Last updated: October 2026
Short answer: Meta's own tools are free and worth using: the Meta AI reply on Marketplace answers "Is this still available?", and Facebook Pages get instant replies and, in some places, Meta's Business AI. They are built for the first message, or for a Page's inbox. PilotAgent is for sellers whose buyers keep talking after that first message: it holds the whole conversation in your own Messenger, including Marketplace chats on a personal profile, negotiates within your floor price and saves every lead. Many sellers use both.
What Meta offers today
- 1
Meta AI reply on Marketplace (free). Since March 2026 you can switch it on when you create a listing. It answers availability questions from your listing details, such as price and pickup area, and you can preview and edit the reply. It covers the first question, not the conversation after it, and may not be available in every country yet.
- 2
Business Suite automations (free, for Facebook Pages). Instant reply, away messages and FAQ-style answers send fixed text to people who message your Page. Useful for "thanks, we'll get back to you", but every buyer gets the same words.
- 3
Meta's Business AI (for Facebook Pages). Meta's AI agent can answer customers in a Page's Messenger inbox using the business information you give it. It only answers people who message first, and switching it on pauses the Page's other automations. Meta itself notes that AI answers may not always be accurate. It is built for Page inboxes, so if you sell on Marketplace from your personal profile, as most sellers do, check whether it covers those chats before relying on it.

When Meta's tools are enough
- You sell now and then, a few items a month
- Most buyers only ask if it's available, and you're happy to take it from there
- You sell from a Facebook Page and want a free first reply or an AI that answers from your business info
When PilotAgent is worth it
- You get more messages than you can answer, or buyers message evenings and weekends
- Buyers ask about price, condition, mileage, viewings or delivery, not just availability
- You want every lead saved with a name and number, and your own rules followed
- You run several listings, several Facebook accounts, or a team
- You sell from your personal profile, where Page tools don't reach
Using both
Many sellers keep Meta's free reply on for the first "Is this still available?" and let PilotAgent take over from the buyer's next message. PilotAgent steps back the moment you type in a chat yourself, so nothing collides.
Frequently asked questions
Does Facebook Marketplace have its own auto reply?
Yes. Since March 2026 Meta AI can answer availability questions on Marketplace from your listing details. Switch it on when you create a listing. It handles the first question, not the rest of the conversation.
Is Meta's Business AI the same as PilotAgent?
No. Meta's Business AI answers customers in a Facebook Page's inbox using your business information. PilotAgent works in your own Messenger, including Marketplace chats on a personal profile, follows your own written rules, negotiates within your floor price and saves every lead.
Is PilotAgent against Facebook's rules?
PilotAgent works in your own browser, never asks for your Facebook password, and only answers buyers who messaged you first, at a human pace. Read the full answer on account safety.
Do I have to choose one?
No. Keep Meta's free reply for the first message and let PilotAgent handle the rest.
What does PilotAgent cost?
From $10 a month for 1,000 AI replies. Professional is $20 for 4,000, Enterprise is $50 for 10,000 with webhooks, and Enterprise+ starts at $149 with custom limits. Starter and Professional come with a 7-day free trial.
